FAQ - Simple Questions About SumaGrow

What is SumaGrow ?

SumaGrow is a liquid concentrate composed of liquid humates and beneficial microbes which perform a variety of complementary functions that promote soil and plant health. It can be applied to soil, seeds, and plants.

What is the advantage of using SumaGrow alongside chemical fertilizers?

For a farmer it means higher, better quality yields at less expense. For a gardener it means harvesting more fruits and vegetables with higher nutritional values. The shared advantages for growing any type of plant or crops are:

  • Higher yields and improved crop productio».
  • Increased nutritional value including higher Brix levels (better tasting produce« .
  • Environmentally safe can remediate many soil contaminateb
  • Better water use efficiency improves moisture retention capacity in the soil
  • Helps build sustainable soil for future crops

What is Brix:

Brix is the approximate sugar/nutrient content calculated by using a refractometer scale for measuring solids dissolved in water. Plant juice from leaves or fruits are used to measure Brix.

Why are higher Brix levels important?

A higher Brix percentage means a better tasting and more nutritious food for both animals and humans.

Are you advocating eliminating chemical fertilizers altogether?

No. In most cases, we recommend reducing fertilizer inputs when using products containing SumaGrow alongside your conventional cultivation practices.

Why a reduction?

We recommend a reduction for two reasons:

  • Most soils have an ample supply of nutrients they are often in a form that is unavailable to the plant. Our products can potentially release bound nutrients for plant use
  • The general composition of most fertilizers is in the form of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK). Although the chemical forms are immediately available to the plant, it often volatizes off as a gas or leaches away from the plant. SumaGrow® products can chelate and retain some of the chemical nutrients needed by the plant. This decreases the amount of nutrient waste and runoff by holding the fertilizer components for plant use and development.

How does the cost compare with standard agricultural inputs?

In most cases, we offer competitive pricing to standard practices as the added cost of SumaGrow is offset by the savings in reduced inputs and financial gains achieved through higher yields.

What kind of plants can I use SumaGrow products on?

Any kind. SumaGrow® was developed to be effective on a broad spectrum of crops; however, different concentrations and application rates may apply based on various factors such as soil condition and crop type.

Does SumaGrow® work on poor soil or healthy soil?

The integration of SumaGrow products will help build up any soil to maintain longterm soil health.

How is SumaGrow applied?

SumaGrow is a liquid and can be applied using:

  • Irrigation systems
  • Spray tanks
  • Spray bottles

What happens if I use more than the recommended amount?

Our suggested application rates are based on multiple experiments. There is no evidence that an increased application rate will significantly increase the benefits of using SumaGrow products.

Can the product be applied at time of planting?

Yes. SumaGrow products can be used in a variety of ways including:

  • Soil Applied
  • Foliar Spray
  • Root Dip

What is the dilution rate when applying SumaGrow products?

This varies for different crops and soil type and quality.

What is the optimal time of day to apply the product?

We generally recommend applying whenever you apply your standard inputs. However, during droughts and high temperature seasons we recommend application in the late afternoon/early evening.

Can I reduce my fertilizer program the first year?

This varies for different crops and soil type and quality.

Which is the better source to use with SumaGrow® products: NH4 (Ammonia) or NO3 (Nitrate)?

SumaGrow® products will help stabilize (hold in place) either NO3 or NH4.

Can the product be applied with herbicide and insecticides?

In most cases, yes. Herbicides such as Round-Up are okay; however, you should avoid blending SumaGrow products with fungicides as they are detrimental to many of the beneficial microbes in the SumaGrow formula. If co application is preferred, we recommend the products be applied at time of mixing

Are SumaGrow products hazardous?

When used properly, they are safe for humans, animals, and the environment. Please refer to our MSDS for further information

Do I need to wear protective gear when mixing or applying these products?

Although SumaGrow isn t a hazardous material, we recommend wearing protective gear because many people have unpredictable allergies. Please refer to our MSDS for further information

Do you offer products for organic production?

Absolutely. We offer OMRI listed formulations for use in the production of organic foods and fibers.

How should SumaGrow products be stored?

If the product will not be used immediately, loosely refit the cap to allow fresh air to flow until you are ready to use the product and store in a well vented location away from direct sunlight.

What temperature range is best for the storage of SumaGrow products?

It s best to avoid extreme temperatures, either high or low.

Does the product need to be agitated before or during application?

Yes. For a good microbial distribution, the product should be stirred, shaken, or agitated prior to use. It is beneficial to agitate the mixture during application.

Will the product plug my spray nozzles?

In most circumstances, no; however, a good agitation in the tank will keep any small particles suspended.

What is the shelf life?

If the product is stored according to our recommendations, the shelf life is one year. However, we recommend use within this year s growing season for maximum efficacy

Do you have a dry/powdered/pelletized SumaGrow product?
